In a push to highlight the power and silence of their electric vehicles, Volvo Trucks partners up with legendary heavy metal-drummer Mikkey Dee, known for being one of the loudest drummers in heavy metal. Through a flurry of electricity and metal drums, STARK Film was tasked with bringing the partnership to life in powerful and playful films targeting primarily the truck driving community.
“Are electric trucks as powerful as diesel trucks? Yes, they are! They also offer a silent and vibration free cab that takes trucking to a new era” says Volvo Trucks’ Marketing Communication Manager Fredrik Hedenskog. He continues “But there are still misconceptions and skepticism out there. We felt we needed a campaign that shows all positive aspects of electric vehicles, not just the environmental aspects. We summarized this in the campaign theme: “Silent power. Ready to rock”
Partnering up with Motörhead/Scorpions-drummer Mikkey Dee and STARK Film, a long-time film supplier to Volvo Trucks, the project started to take form.
”I love metal and I love engines. The final results exceeded my own expectations.”, says Mikkey Dee. He continues, ”It was a great experience working with Volvo Trucks and STARK”.
“Over the years we’ve done a lot of productions for Volvo Trucks and many of our creatives have a background in rock and metal, so we were very confident we could make something special” says STARK Film producer Adam Gustafsson.
Production began in early 2022 and over the course of a week, Gothenburg, Sweden became the backdrop for a previously unseen side of Volvo Trucks. One where their usual brand of quality, safety and environmental care is combined with hard hitting metal and electrifying stunts.
